About this lehenga
Tonal work is the hardest kind to photograph and the most striking in person. Everything on this lehenga is black on black: black sequins, bugle beads and cutdana laid across a black net base, arranged in the same overlapping scalloped fans that run through our chocolate brown piece. With no colour contrast to carry the pattern, all the definition comes from how the beads sit and how light moves across them.
The result is a surface that changes constantly. Standing still under soft light it reads as a rich, textured black. Under a directional spot or a reception chandelier the fans separate out and the whole skirt shifts. It is a deliberately restrained piece that ends up drawing more attention than most brightly worked ones.
The choli is sleeveless with a V neckline, beaded to match and finished with a short fringe along the hem. The dupatta is a sheer black net, scattered with small motifs and weighted at the corner with a ball tassel, deliberately light so it does not obscure the skirt.
Fit and sizing
Available in AU sizes 6 to 20. The choli is supplied with margin at the seams so it can be taken in to your measurements, and skirt length is set during your fitting. Because the sequin work runs to the hem, shortening the skirt is more involved than on a plain lehenga and may require the border to be lifted and reset, so please allow extra time if a significant length change is needed.
Styling notes
Black tonal work is the most flexible base we stock for jewellery. Diamond, polki, pearl and antique gold all sit well, and this is one of the few pieces where silver and platinum work properly. Because the outfit has no colour of its own, a single strong accent, such as emerald or ruby stones, will read as deliberate rather than clashing. A bold lip works here in a way it would not against a heavily coloured lehenga.
Which black is right for you?

The other is black silk with a wide gold zari hem border and gold piping on every panel, which reads as more traditionally festive and works across a wider range of functions.
