About this lehenga
Tonal embroidery is harder to do well than contrast embroidery. When the thread sits close in colour to the fabric underneath, the pattern has to be carried entirely by texture and density, and any weakness in the work shows immediately. This piece is a good example of it done properly.
The base is ivory net, embroidered in champagne gold resham with a fine sequin fill running through the motifs. The skirt is built in tiers, each band a different scalloped jaal pattern, separated by narrower borders so the eye reads distinct horizontal layers rather than one continuous surface. Towards the hem the tiers grow deeper and the work denser, which weights the skirt visually and helps the flare hold its shape.
The choli is full sleeve with a sweetheart neckline, embroidered through the body and down the arms, and finished with a fine beaded fringe at the hem. The dupatta is ivory net with scattered floral butis and a matching embroidered border, long enough to drape as a veil.
Fit and sizing
Available in AU sizes 6 to 20. The choli is supplied with margin at the seams, and sleeve length, neckline depth and skirt length are all set during your fitting. Most alterations are completed within 7 to 14 days. If you are ordering as a bride for a fixed date, we recommend starting at least four to six weeks out so there is room for a second fitting.
Styling notes
Because the outfit is tonal, it takes colour in the jewellery better than most. Uncut polki, pearl and kundan all work, and emerald or ruby stones give you a focal point without introducing a second competing metal. Rose gold and antique gold both sit comfortably against the champagne thread; bright yellow gold can look slightly harsh next to it. For a bridal look, a maang tikka and a layered necklace work well since the sweetheart neckline leaves room.
Caring for pale gold
Pale metallic thread is the most demanding finish we stock to keep looking new. Dry clean promptly after wear, store in breathable cotton rather than plastic, and keep the outfit away from humidity, which tarnishes metallic thread over time. Keep the dupatta folded separately so its border cannot catch the skirt embroidery.
