The Detail

About this lehenga

Not every occasion calls for an outfit covered in work, and this piece is a good example of restraint used well. The base is a deep royal purple silk, and rather than embroidering the whole surface, the design scatters small gold floral butis evenly across the skirt in staggered rows. The spacing is what makes it work: enough to catch light as you move, sparse enough that the colour of the silk still carries the outfit.

All the density is saved for the hem, where a deep embroidered border in antique gold runs the full circumference with a scalloped upper edge that breaks into the plain silk above it. The skirt is gathered at the waist rather than panelled, which gives it a softer fall and noticeably less weight than our fully worked pieces.

The choli has a sweetheart neckline edged in gold, three-quarter sleeves worked with matching embroidery, and a fringe of pearls and gold beads along the waistline. The dupatta is purple net finished with a gold embroidered lace border along its length.

Fit and sizing

Available in AU sizes 6 to 20. The choli is supplied with margin at the seams so it can be taken in to your measurements, and sleeve and skirt length are set during your fitting. Because the skirt is gathered rather than panelled, length adjustments are more straightforward on this piece than on our bordered or beaded lehengas. Most alterations are completed within 7 to 14 days.

Styling notes

Purple takes both warm and cool jewellery, which gives you more freedom than most colours. Antique gold and polki echo the buti work directly; pearl picks up the fringe on the choli and keeps the look softer. Kundan with green stones is a classic pairing with purple if you want contrast. Because the neckline is a modest sweetheart with a gold edge, a shorter necklace or a simple pendant tends to sit better than a heavy layered set.

A practical choice

Customers often arrive wanting the most heavily worked outfit in the room and leave having chosen something like this instead, because it is the piece they can actually wear for eight hours. If you have a mehndi, a long family function or a full day of ceremonies ahead, the weight difference between this and a fully beaded lehenga is significant and worth feeling for yourself in store.

Where to wear it

Occasions this suits

Wedding guest

Purple is one of the safest guest colours available, formal and rich without any risk of reading as bridal.

Mehndi & sangeet

The gathered skirt is lighter than our fully worked pieces, which makes it far more practical for a long day or an evening of dancing.

Festive & Diwali

Gold butis on a deep jewel base is the classic festive combination, and it works across more than one season.

Family functions

Substantial enough for a formal event but comfortable enough to wear for hours, which suits close family with a long day ahead.

Engagement

A strong option for guests and for brides who want a jewel tone rather than red.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Is this lehenga lighter than your heavily embroidered pieces?

Yes, considerably. The work here is scattered buti embroidery across a silk base rather than all-over beading, with the density concentrated in the hem border. That makes it one of the more comfortable lehengas we stock for a long day of functions, and a good option if you have found fully worked pieces too heavy.

Is purple appropriate for a wedding guest?

Purple is one of the most reliable guest colours. It reads as rich and formal, carries well in both daylight and evening light, and sits clearly apart from the reds and golds usually worn by the bridal party.

Does this include the dupatta and choli?

Yes. This is a complete three-piece set: the three-quarter sleeve choli with pearl fringe, the gathered silk lehenga skirt and the gold-edged purple net dupatta.

Can I try this lehenga on before buying?

Yes. Visit our Epping boutique at Level 1, 15B Miller Street, Epping VIC 3076. Walk-ins are welcome, though we recommend booking so a stylist is free to assist you.

Can the sleeve length be changed?

Yes. The choli is supplied with three-quarter sleeves, which can be shortened to elbow or cap length during alterations. Lengthening to a full sleeve is possible if there is enough matching fabric, so ask our stylist at your fitting.

Do you offer alterations and custom sizing?

Yes. We provide in-house alterations for neckline, sleeve length, blouse fit, waist and skirt length. Turnaround is usually 7 to 14 days depending on the changes required.

What sizes are available?

This design is available in AU sizes 6 to 20. If your measurements fall between sizes, we fit the larger size and alter it down.

How should I care for this outfit?

Dry clean only. Silk creases more readily than net, so store it hanging with the skirt supported at the waistband rather than folded for long periods. Keep the dupatta separate so the gold lace border cannot catch the silk.
