About this gharara suit
This piece combines two techniques that are usually kept apart. The kurta is digitally printed with a dense multicolour paisley and mughal-style pattern in rose, teal, ochre and cream, at a level of detail that would be impractical to achieve in thread. Gold handwork is then applied over the print by hand, following the printed motifs along the placket, neckline, hem and sleeve cuffs, so the embroidery reinforces the pattern rather than sitting on top of it.
The kurta is cut as an open-front jacket with three-quarter sleeves, designed to be worn open. The gold handwork runs down both edges of the placket, which is what allows the open front to read as deliberate rather than unfinished.
Underneath, the gharara is plain rose chiffon scattered with small gold sequin butis and finished with a gold border at the hem, deliberately restrained so it does not compete with the printed jacket. The dupatta matches, with gold butis throughout and a gold lace border.
Fit and sizing
Available in AU sizes 6 to 20. Because the kurta is an open jacket rather than a fitted garment, it is more forgiving through the body than most of our pieces and needs less alteration. Kurta and sleeve length are set during your fitting, and gharara length is set to your height with heels, so bring the shoes you plan to wear.
Styling notes
The print already contains several colours, so the jewellery should stay simple. Plain gold, whether antique or polished, is the safest choice and picks up the handwork directly. Avoid heavily stoned sets, which will compete with the print. Because the jacket is open and the neckline sits high, earrings and bangles carry the look better than a necklace. Gold or nude footwear keeps the focus on the kurta.
Print versus embroidery
Customers sometimes assume a printed outfit is a lesser option, and that is not the right way to think about it. Print delivers colour and fine detail at a scale embroidery cannot match, while embroidery delivers texture and weight. This piece uses both, with the handwork placed where it matters most. For a daytime mehndi or sangeet, it will look richer and wear far more comfortably than a fully embroidered equivalent.
